Solar One is a 24 year old musician born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He got into music at a very young age, when he was given a guitar by his grandfather around the age of 12. He is a lyricist, guitarist, drummer, and producer, not only making hip hop, but playing in several punk bands as well. After being inspired to create and performing music for over half of his life, he has developed a unique niche in underground hip hop. He has played several shows with some like minded artists and friends such as Louis Logic, Mac Lethal, Grieves, Type, Soulcrate Music, Kublakai, The Let Go, Macklemore, and many others...This is consciouss, deep, great hip-hop!

Brawdcast is an artist who draws inspiration from great emcees like Common and Big L, and you can hear it in his cleverly crafted punchlines. He brings thought provoking, original concepts to each track that would make Maya Angelou bop her head. Brawdcasts concepts on tracks range from his relationship to God to straight rocking the microphone, all birthed from his unique upbringing. He has recorded commercials for Russell Simmons (thats right, the biggest man in the industry) energy drink called Defcon 3. He has collaborated with respected artists like Pigeon John and Trek Life. Kutmasta Kurt and Brawdcast were actually in talks concerning a project, but investor issues kept the project at bay. Instead of letting the disappointment hold him back, Brawdcast found himself on an emerging independent label, O.C. Records. He is flat out the total package, smooth concepts mixed with raw lyrics that would make Big L smile. Brawdcast has received various accolades due to the quality of his debut album. He won an award for "Best Hip-Hop" at the Orange County Music Awards in 2006, 2007, and 2008, which celebrates the best music across all genres in Orange County. Brawdcast recently also just released his first 12", with the lead single as "This is It", which is a surefire banger featuring Brawdcast's ferocious flow and witty punchlines over heart-pounding production. The single has gotten massive amounts of spins on College radio shows, hitting ..24 on the National College Radio Hip-Hop charts and staying on the charts for a couple of monthsMainstream radio is also bumping Brawdcast, as "This Is It" has been played at Los Angeles's Power 106FM. Brawdcast's music has also been played on the two biggest Satellite Radio stations, XM and Sirius (Channel 40 "Hip Hop Nation"). Just like how radio stations help fans hear new music through the airwaves, Myspace is the premier internet site for people to hear new music. As a testament to Brawdcast's latest album and the immense support his fans give him, Brawdcast was Myspace's Artist of the Week from March 28th to April 4th along with Ugly Duckling and T.I. Soulful hip hop with a classic feel, no wonder he's gained fans and guest appearances from the likes of J-Live, Blu, Talib Kweli, Large Pro and more, all with an extra push from Fat Beats! Limited!

CYNE's one of my absolu favorite hip-hop artists that's been known for their unique, innovative beats, courtesy of members Spock and Enoch. At the same time, they're also known for their political, conscious bars, courtesy of MCs Akin and Cise Star. They continue their reign with 2009's Water For Mars (unfortunately another Japan-only release...). Some CYNE fans believed that their '08 album, Pretty Dark Things, was a feeble attempt that drifted away from their roots. Clearly rethinking their path, CYNE appears to have looked to their first album, Time Being, for inspiration. This becomes apparent in several ways - the structure of the album, with several instrumental interludes interspersed between clever songs is there. Their beats are still wildly cosmic, yet aren't as radical as they were on their other albums as of late, as they've returned to relatively more simple beats. Yet, although not truly innovative in the face of CYNE's career, their work is so carefully crafted and artfully done that this cannot be overlooked. Content ranges from uplifting, positive outlooks on life ("This Year"), to stories of love with their music ("Boombox Pimp"), and storytelling ("The Jux"). Personal opinion? Album of '09 right here.

It's finally here! The Grouch & Eligh have bestowed upon us their third collaboration: Say G&E! Some time has passed since their last release with No More Greener Grasses, and among fans it still remains some of their best work, but probably the thing they've been asked most about while doing shows is if they're ever going to release another album. Fan prayers have now been answered, and it's obvious that letting the years go by and taking time off has proved to be a powerful creative ally. Produced almost entirely by Eligh, and if you've heard any recent work by the eccentric emcee you can expect a very dreamy soundscape of beats and relaxing sonic rhythms while often delivering his verses at the speed of light. The Grouch continues to show why he's a rappers rapper, not afraid of any kind of style these days, as seen with last year's Show You The World, and perfectly capable of recapturing the glory days of the Legends with The Gathering, but it is noteworthy that age and a love you can only find through friends and family have helped him grow as a humbled lyricist full of wisdom and a keen awareness of the ever changing world around us. To help mark the return of G&E are guest appearances by Pigeon John, Mistah F.A.B, Slug, Gift of Gab, Blu, and even Sage Francis, as well as additional production by Flying Lotus and Amp Live. Legendary Music is on fire this year, but even if the bus of new releases stopped here...I think I'd be okay with that after hearing Say G&E! But of course, we're still thankful there is plenty more to come!

Rockin’ a chain blinged out with a gold-plated Legend of Zelda NES cartridge, you can tell that Raydar Ellis is different from your stereotypical emcee. Hailing from central Massachusetts along with new partner Quite Nyce, the two have embarked on a new direction in their underground hip hop careers with a project entitled Champs Vs. The League.

From the jump, this project has that good ol’ Native Tongues feel to it. Two skilled emcees not willing to scream, drown their lyrics in negativity, cursing, gun play, drug dealing, and misogyny are blending their sound to provide an uplifting direction to a self-destructive industry. As the LP begins, Raydar blends in the feel of jazz greats collaborating for the first time before flexing the first of 14 jazz influenced tracks that he produces. Appropriately entitled “Leading The Leaders”, Raydar and Quite Nyce position themselves as positive examples for aspiring emcees with a vibe that stresses pride and hard work while still coaxing a head bob. They realize that dropping knowledge has to come across in a form that is fun and their music is just that.

In the same way that Talib Kweli and Mos Def did years ago with their Black Star project, these two have an undeniable charisma on the mic. While Quite Nyce is the live wire of the two, Raydar brings the mellow out of his partner with his Madlib/Pete Rock/9th Wonder-esque beats that seem to pay homage to the likes of J Dilla, Blackalicious, Tribe, De La Soul, and any other group willing to liken hip hop to jazz. Raydar seems to take on a more melodic tone to his production allowing the samples and percussion to flow like a Pharcyde or Digable Planets jam and enable the duo to almost harmonize their flow to the beat rather than battle with an off-tempo style that some wordy emcees who are would-be lyricists would take on.

Though the smoothed out vibe is there, the beats are far from tranquilizing. Allowing a soulful scene to set the tone, Raydar brings his thought-provoking flow to accompany a constant desire to do the Running Man. Despite the clear desire to return people to the feeling that won so many heads over back in the early '90s and before, tracks like “LALALALA” and “Clap” have a unique upbeat style that goes back and breaks new ground at the same time. Never do the two fall into the trap of biting another’s style. Despite the similarities to other conscious emcees, they manage to have their own identity. They brilliantly use their chemistry to bore into listeners’ love nerve.

“I’m a success to me. Aight, bet, you free!”

Self-respect and reflection on the immense amount of dedication that has brought them to this world wide release on Brick Records spans the track “If I Never” which features Akil of Jurassic 5 and Solstice of Wade Waters. Chronicling struggle in the industry, the story these emcees paint shows a heartfelt scene of what ‘making it’ should be about. Hopefully, younger emcees take note and listen. This sets the stage for additional life reflection and classic storytelling on the track "Broken Pieces" where both emcees get a bit personal while trying to share life lessons.

An interesting track named “Hola Bout A Dolla”, which speaks of the ills of black business and black consumers supporting them, shows the spirit that these two emcees excel in. The lyricism is frank and eye-opening yet manages not to judge.

Sure to be favorites of fans of Little Brother or A Tribe Called Quest, songs "Love Is" and "Ms. September" are both as close to ballads as hip hop has ever gotten. Where "Ms. September" speaks of a love relationship lost with a woman, "Love Is" delves into the love of making music.

All in all, Champs Vs. The League is hip hop’s return to love. Quite Nyce and Raydar Ellis have delivered a classic that will probably be slept on but has the potential to open eyes to the beauty that positive hip hop has. Due to be released on March 24, this release is one to watch for!

Drumbo is the name of their new collaborative album, which will hit shelves on April 15 under label Ship & Side Road Records - so you get it with almost a month in advance once again! If you are into hip hop, this Canadian performers will surely get you in the right mood.

Danny Fernandez aka DEF 3 is a Regina Saskatchewan Based emcee whose work has paved the way for the provinces Hip Hop scene. His humble and honest approach stands out amongst today’s watered down commercial music scene yet still maintains an appeal to all genres. His music represents exactly who he is and where he is from. He is the recipient of several arts boards grants both personal and for his involvement in the community. He’s toured canada extensively and had the oppurtunity to tour Japan and the United States Including Hawaii. In 2008 his album with fellow rapper Moka Only was nominated for WCMA. He’s performed all types of crowds from award ceremonies,pubs,clubs,festivals to coffee shops and continues with his latest release Drumbo.

Chicago Hip-Hop group 1773 a collective of two MCs from Chicago, Illinois: Wisdm One and Just J the duo that became a trio when officially adding DJ Moral One to the line up since their tour together in 2006, is back again with their new LP Return of the New. Set to drop in early ‘09, they’ve recently released the single “It’s On Again,” produced by no one less than Ubiquity recording artist Ohmega Watts. If you heard 1773’s last album, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by their new sound. Along with Ohmega, fellow Lightheaded crew member Othello produced a lion’s share of the cuts. I love the album straight trough, it is nothing to sleep on for sure!
